Basset Hounds are originally from France the name Basset is french meaning "rather low" which fits the Basset Hounds stature.  They are short legged dogs in the hound family.  Basset Hounds became very popular in the late 20's because Time magazine used a photo of a Basset Hound puppy on the cover to promote the at the time 52nd annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. 

Basset Hounds have also been in many movies, T.V. shows, and comic strips.  Droopy Dog was a Basset Hound, Snoopy also, Boss Hog from the Dukes of Hazzard had a Basset Hound named flash.  The Sony Pictures movie Open Season 2 had a Basset Hound that was played great, he was exactly like Scoobie the Basset Hound I know.

Basset Hounds are very well known about their scent of smell, which is second to only the Bloodhound.  They were known for there ability to hunt and track rabbits and hair but has been not as popular for the past couple decades.

Basset Hounds are great family dogs, they have a wonderful temperament, which make them great for a family with younger children.  The love everything and everyone, they also are great with other dogs because of their temperament.  It is really hard to train Basset Hounds, they can be hard headed at times, and people say they will forget the trick if there is no treat.

There are many places you can find Basset Hound puppies for sale, including SPCA's, Basset rescues, and other dog shelters.  There are also breeders everywhere in the country that sell Basset Hound puppies.  The best thing to do when you want to get your Hound is to go on the Internet and look for local dog rescues or even if there is a Basset rescue near your house.  If there isn't you can always look online for Basset Hound puppies for sale.  If there isn't one near you, you might have to travel to get one.  For AKC registered Basset Hounds you will be expected to pay between $400 and $700 dollars depending on different things like, color, bloodline, location, and some other things.
