Different Breeds Of Cats
It came as quite a surprise when I found out that there are more breeds of cats in the world besides black, those grey ones, the bald kind, the multi-colored type and the one with stripes. In fact, there are hundreds of cat breeds in the in the world, each with their own unique qualities and characteristics. While these may be referring to domestic purebreeds, there are generally two main types of different breeds of cats. In dogs, we call them mutts.
- The Domestics Longhair- this cat comes with a longer, more varied coat. They can come in almost every color and pattern, with their hair coming in various lengths and textures.
- The Domestic Shorthair- just like the longhair, this mutt with a shorter coat can come in almost any color, hair pattern or texture you can imagine.
While these are the best pets (only some will consider a cat just that), there are also several purebreeds in the world. Many feline breeding agencies of the world recognize about 40 individual breeds of cat, and that is just considering the domesticated kind.
These are some of the more popular purebreeds of feline found throughout the world. Most have their own unique look, which is the reason they are so popular.

The Persian
This longhaired cat is known for it's long thick coat and bunched up nose. Once you've seen of of this breed of cat, you'll never really forget it. These cats are very laid back and docile, but still have a look the is elegant and unique. The cat's temperament is also determined by how it is raised.

This cat breed is one of the most recognized in the world. They are known for their short hair, lean bodies and black markings on their ears and face. They were kept by the king of Siam as a pet, hence the name. This breed of cat is very vocal and has very beautiful blue eyes, which make them very desirable pets.

The Main Coon is the oldest breed in North America, and is popular among pet owners. This breed of cat has a soft, multi-colored coat and an energetic disposition. They are well known to be entertaining pets, running around causing all sorts of shenanigans. Even though they may act like over-caffeinated clowns, they are very intelligent animals.

Sphinx
Not the statue in Egypt, these are one of the most popular types of hairless breeds. Through several genetic mutations, some breeds of cats no longer have hair, and people love them. Even with their odd appearance, these cats have gained popularity over the past 50 years. Be careful though, they do require a lot of extra attention that other cats don't.
There are several other different breeds of cats, but these are the most popular throughout the world.
