Kilogram Converter

A computer program written to convert  kilograms to pounds and vice versa are fairly common online, and usually they're free.  Many programmers take on a projects like this early in the career or schooling in order to get some of the basics down, and as a result, many have shown up all over the Internet.  Luckily, most of them are at least fairly close.  First, some of the basic terms you will need to known when using a kilogram converter.

• Kilogram- the basic unit for measuring weight and mass based on the International System of Units.
• Pound- the unit used to measure weight and mass in the United States only.
• Kilogram To Pounds- the conversion of a weight in kg to lbs.
• Pounds To Kilograms- converting pounds to kilograms.

Most of the process is fairly simple, and can be done easily online.  The vast majority of kilogram converter calculators that are scattered around the web tend to be fairly accurate for larger weights, but the smaller weights can be a little confusing.  For instance, if you try to convert 1 pound into kilograms, you will get .5 kilograms.  This isn't quite right, since one pound is equal to .45359237 kilograms, meaning that the majority of online kilogram converter calculators tend to round to the nearest half unit.  This does make it confusing with smaller sizes.  If you happen to be using larger weights, it works wonder.  For example, you can easily convert 100 kilograms into 220 pounds without issue.  Just remember, kilogram converters aren't meant for completely accurate measurement.

Doing It By Hand

If you do need an accurate number, then a calculator is all you will really need.  Using some basic measurements, a pound is equal to 2.20462262185 kilograms approximately.  In order to convert pounds to kilograms, you will need to divide the number of pounds by this number.  Most of the online kilogram converter utilities you will see will only use 2.2 pounds.  In reverse, in order to convert pounds to kilograms, you will need to know just have to reverse this, and multiply the number of kilograms by 2.20462262185.  With a calculator, this can be done easily. 

You can also use another number to get the results you need.  In order to convert pounds to kilograms, you just have to multiply the number of pounds by .45359237, resulting in the number of kilograms.  In order to convert kilograms to pounds, multiply the number of kilograms by .45359237.  That's all you really need to know.
