CharacterTea Cup Yorkies For Adoption

The ideal Yorkshire Terrier's personality is described with a carrying on very upright confident self esteem. Though small the Yorkshire Terrier is intelligent and active, and should not show the soft temperament seen in lap dogs. The Yorkshire breed is bold and active, and can be hard to train because they are picky at what they eat. They are most cuddly in their first 2-3 years of age, and they will become more like a lap dog after playing for a while.

General Appearance

The Yorkshire Terrier is a small dog weighing 7 pounds or less, with a glossy, long silky coat. There coats run along the middle of the head, back, and the tail. There coats are dark blue on the back with a tan chest and tan on the head and legs which is a pattern described as "Tan with a blue saddle." The dogs have Small erect ears that are covered with short, deep tan colored fur. Traditionally the Yorkshires tails were chopped, but today most Yorkshire breeds have a long tail. Yorkshire breeding standards contain detailed descriptions of precise colors and placement of markings, as well as body proportions and structures. Most Yorkshire Terriers should have a general look of self confidence.

Coat

For Yorkshire Terriers the importance is placed on its coat color, quality, and its texture. They hair must be glossy, fine, straight, and silky. Traditional Yorkshires had long grown out coats with their hair parted down the middle of there backs. From the back of the neck to the base of the tail most Yorkshires coats should be a dark gray to a steel blue with the hair on the tail being a darker blue. On the head, high chest, and legs their hair should be a bright, rich tan with darker roots in the middles shading into lighter tan at the tips.Tea Cup Yorkies For Adoption

Yorkshires that have other colored coats than the ones described above, or they have woolly or extra fine coats, are still considered to be Yorkshire Terriers. This does nothing to the Yorkshire personality they will still be just as good of a companion as a dog with the correct coat. The only difference between an off colored Yorkshire is that they should not be bred for reasons being that an off colored Yorkie could be linked to a genetic defect that may affect the dogs health.

Newborn Yorkshire puppies are born black with tan points on the muzzle, above the eyes, and around the legs , feet, inside the ears, and the underside of the tail. These tan points slowly transition in to their adult coats over many months and sometimes even years.

Health

Generally Teacup Yorkies tend to be healthy dogs, but with all dog breeds there are some downsides.  One of the main downsides is that since they were bread to be so small their tracheal is an issue.  Due to their small size their tracheal is smaller then normal and over the years Here is a Teacup Yorkie sitting pretty.the barking and breathing tends to weaken them even more.  Almost to the point of collapsing.  If caught early enough there is surgery that a vet can perform to repair the tracheal.

There are other genetic problems with Yorkies in general that people should know about as well.  Distichiae is another problem, this is when the eyelashes actually grow inward and scratch the dogs eye.  This can lead to irritation, excessive tearing, inflammation, and can even cause corneal abrasions.  This can be taken care of with manual grooming, surgery, or electrolysis.

There are other genetic problems that come with Yorkes, you should check with your vet to find out the more serious ones.  But if healthy Yorkies can live 10 to 15 years.  The teacup Yorkies tend to have a little shorter of a lifespan but if well taken care of can live for a very long time.
